This strong image comes from a late afternoon in Ostend. The beach and its surroundings were still sunny, but a heavy storm was looming close by. The shimmers on the beachgrass and the heavy sky create an alienating effect of the impending doom of nature’s force.
Next to his documented work as a professional photographer, Hendrik has always been fascinated with the unexpected, the aesthetics of depictions and representations. His starting point for any work is always a photographic image, which he then proceeds to transform like a painter would by changing the balance of colours, adding different tones, adapting shapes and composition… At times the image becomes abstract, other times shapes and silhouettes may still be recognizable. The tides, coast and strength of the sea are his main sources of inspiration.
